Mahasweta, a commercial pilot, rescued 800 students trapped in Ukraine safely to India. She was also active in Mission Vande Bharat.

Amidst the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War, the situation is so dire that fear looms about the safety of foreign nationals stuck there.

Thanks to the Government of India’s untiring efforts, Operation Ganga carried out the evacuation process in full swing until the last trapped Indian was rescued safely.

 The special contribution of Indian pilots in this operation is also praiseworthy. One such daredevil is Mahashweta Chakraborty, a 24-year-old commercial pilot who came forward to gladly take the initiative.

`Operation Ganga is a lifetime experience. I got a call late at night from the ministry asking for my consent. I happily agreed to serve my country’, Mahashweta shares.

 It is noteworthy that before ‘Operation Ganga’, Mahasweta has been a part of another major emergency operation. She was also a part of the `Vande Bharat’ Mission during the COVID-19 lockdown.

 `It was a lifetime experience, as I rescued students, many of whom were ill and had painful stories of survival. Most of the children were in the age group of 20 to 22 years. I salute their spirit. I am extremely proud to be a part of the mission….No other country launched such a massive operation… It is yet another feather in the crown of Bharat”, Mahashweta proudly says.

 The real heroes are these young students, who fought hunger, thirst, death threats, and bad weather to escape a war-torn country. The Government of India carried out ‘Operation Ganga’ through 77 flights to evacuate Indians from Ukraine. Along with the Indian Army, many private airlines, including Air India, Indigo, Spice Jet also contributed significantly to the mission.
