Bulldozer justice: Is Yogi Baba’s Bulldozer only reserved for Muslims or is it anti-Crime?
Shashank Srivastava, a young IT professional in Lucknow says the bulldozer initiative of chief minister Yogi Adityanath is a cult and he should get it patented as the success stories can be seen replicated outside UP as well.
Belong to a subtle city of UP, Sultanpur I shifted to Lucknow during the last couple of years of the previous government and I was not too young to understand the kind of favoritism (appeasement0 politics that was prevailing here.
Though the change (after Yogi took charge) was not visible instantly, but slowly but surely everyone started getting the taste. I do not want to go into the details but the law and order situation is quite visible and distinct.
The idea of bulldozers becoming a part of law and order was an innovative one and was welcomed by and large by law abiding population. Why I say law abiding because from day one there were allegations that it is used particularly against one community and the motive is to settle scores and help another community maintain an upper hand.
Tell me one thing–who is most afraid of the law? A person or a group who is breaking it and it is a part and parcel of their life! Some also tried to `cook’ that it is illegal and against the law. It is as simple as that–if you can provide a clause or a section that it is illegal, put it or move to the court. My say is simple—It 8 out of 10 affected by the bulldozer bludgeon belongs to a particular community, then how is the policy or the bulldozer is at fault?
I am an avid follower of news and frequently, I also went through news that were I had never seen in my life and in which the criminals were of some other community. Let me quote two of them. In Pratapgarh, a hardcore criminal was as large and after all efforts (of the police he cannot be nabbed.
However, as soon as the bulldozer `landed’ outside his house, he surrendered within an hour. Similarly, in Ambedkarnagar, five rape accused surrendered before the court as soon as their family members heard the thunders of the bulldozers.
Leave apart those big mafias and dons already cooling their feet in the jails and there illegal properties being razed, those who are roaming free are also surrendering before the police–be it the fear of the bulldozer or the fear of the guns of the lawmakers that have started roaring after a long silence!
I have some more example of social service through bulldozers. In Prayagraj and some other districts, the illegal properties were razed and after making houses on them, they were handed over to the people. Did the cast and creed of the beneficiaries asked before giving the homes?
I am not favoring a particular mindset, but if it is illegal and unconstitutional, why it is being replicated at other places also? It is as simple as that-if you problems or it is illegal go to the court! The bulldozer statement is clearly an anti-crime statement and its is not against any particular community. If you want, I can give you some names of those apart from a particular community being bulldozed. (Vikas Dubey, Dhruv Kumar Singh, Sunder Bhati, Anil Bhati, Amit Kasana, Umesh Rai, Tribhuvan Singh… the list is long. Use it if you want. )
Bulldozers also became a symbol of BJP (along with the lotus) in the rallies also and Yogi also got a nickname of `Bulldozer Baba’. I am not praising or flaunting my association, but it is the mindset of every law-abiding citizen.
On a lighter note, the bulldozer has also found a place on the social media and memes are flooding on various platforms. The latest, if you remember, was the British PM Boris Johnson riding the JCB and the photo op went by the credentials that PM Modi has hired a new mascot for the ongoing drive of Yogi!
Law-abiding and tax paying people like me have no problems with any kind of new, innovative or old law enforcement tactics—it is for the anti-socials and the criminals and those having a particular mindset need to fear.
